DIMENSIONS OF WELLNESS
/We live in a time where people are overworked, overstressed, and looking for a better sense of overall well-being.
The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health. If you notice the word ACTIVE is in this definition. This is a key word since wellness is not a static state. Rather it is the culmination of the choices you make everyday.
There are the Dimensions of Wellness often called the wellness wheel. The number of spokes or pies in the wheel are anywhere between 6-9. The spokes do not have to be in perfect balance but it is important to focus some energy on each portion.
The following definitions of wellness are from the Global Wellness Institute website:
Physical: Nourishing a healthy body through exercise, nutrition, sleep, etc.
Mental/Emotional: Being aware of, accepting and expressing our feelings, and understanding the feelings of others.
Spiritual: Searching for meaning and higher purpose in human existence.
Social: Connecting and engaging with others and our communities in meaningful ways.
Environmental: Fostering positive interrelationships between planetary health and human actions, choices and wellbeing.
Financial/Occupation: is a state of being in which you can meet current and future financial obligations and make choices that let you enjoy life.
